Dr. Melissa Berthiaume (Malone)

I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, and went to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, where I obtained my BS in Animal Science in 2003. I attended veterinary school at Colorado State University and graduated in 2007. I practiced for several years in New Mexico, but have been in Arizona since the summer of 2011, and I love living out here in the desert heat! A few of my special interests in veterinary medicine include surgery (orthopedic surgery is something I particularly enjoy), dentistry, and preventative care. I also enjoy building lasting relationships with pets and their families – starting with that first visit and as they go through life. Watching the animals grow and bond with their families, and being here to help when illness or injuries arise are what make my job so rewarding! Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy anything that involves spending time with my family. I also love to have outdoor fun, especially barbeques, swimming, and camping. At home I have 2 young human kiddos, and 2 fur kids (2 pooches - a sweet pitbull and a silly cane corso).

Dr. Laural Casler

I am originally from upstate New York, but have moved around a lot with my schooling. I first moved to Arizona in 1996 for graduate school, where I studied anthropology and primate behavior. I returned to the Phoenix area after veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and have found my professional home as part of the White Tanks Animal Hospital team. I understand that your pets are important members of your family, and I will always treat them like my own. My goal is to keep them happy and healthy. When unplanned situations arise, I will work with you to strive to make them well. While I love all areas of veterinary medicine, I have strong interests in dentistry and internal medicine. I look forward to creating strong bonds with both you and your pets. In my free time, I enjoy sharing my life with my own furry family - my three dogs, George, Gracie, and Rona, and two cats, Tinker and Petie. I love spending time with friends, hiking, traveling, and gardening.

Dr. Katie Cox

I was born in southern California, but have lived in the Phoenix area for some time now. I spent my college years up at Washington State University receiving my Bachelor of Science and graduating from veterinary school. Go Cougs! I moved back to Phoenix after graduating to start my career closer to my family. I love working with dogs and cats and their owners as I understand the bond that humans form with their pets. I believe that my job is as much working with people as it is with animals. My specific passions of veterinary medicine include medicine and exotics. I spend my spare time with my husband and two daughters, and enjoy being outside, reading, and baking. I have a few pets that I share my home with- two border collie mixes named Snickers and Rolo, a cat named Puma, and several tanks full of fish.

Dr. Beth Engelschall

I am originally from Illinois and moved to Arizona with my family in 1998. I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Science. I then attended Colorado State University where I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2017. After graduating, I returned home to Arizona to start my career as a veterinarian. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to travel to rural Nicaragua and Costa Rica to volunteer my services, and to volunteer at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand. I am passionate about strengthening the human-animal bond and building lasting relationships. While I love all aspects of veterinary medicine, my professional interests include preventative medicine, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery and dentistry. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, hiking, reading and cooking. I share my home with five rescue cats – Marshmallow, Waldo, Baxter, Archie and Smudge. I am proud to be on the AZPetVet team and I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

Dr. Cailin McElhenny

I grew up in a military family - moving around frequently - but spent most of my time in the Washington D.C. area. For my undergraduate degree, I attended York College of Pennsylvania, where I studied biology. While at York, I volunteered on a farm and worked with horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, and alpaca. After graduation, I worked as a veterinary technician for two years at a small animal practice in Prattville, AL. My first visit to Phoenix was for a NASCAR race, where I quickly fell in love with the valley. I received my DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Midwestern University in 2019, knowing I wanted to stay in Arizona after graduation. My medical interests include surgery and preventative medicine. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and cheering on all Washington D.C. sports teams! I live with my beloved pets, Kingston (a Bichon Frise) and Jericho (a domestic shorthaired cat). I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

Dr. Jonathan Bycroft

I was born in West Virginia, but was raised in Kansas! While I was a high school student, I began volunteering at the Rolling Hills Zoo and Sunset Zoo, quickly finding my passion for veterinary medicine. I continued to volunteer, working in a small animal ICU while attending vet school. I attended Kansas State University for both my undergraduate degree and my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. I wanted a change from the Midwest, so I made my way out to Arizona to join the White Tanks Animal Hospital & Grooming family! While I’m intrigued by all aspects of veterinary medicine, I especially enjoy exotic animal medicine, surgery, and ultrasound. Life in Arizona is with my wife, Holly - an elementary school teacher - along with our two pups, Chewbacca and Minnie. My hobbies include hiking and spending quality time with my family!

Dr. Gretchen Koch

I was born just outside of Philadelphia (Go Eagles!) but was raised in Gilbert, Arizona. I studied at the University of Arizona and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science in 2015. I moved on to Colorado State University, where I received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. While I was studying for my DVM, I worked part-time as a veterinary assistant. This experience strengthened my interest in veterinary medicine, and I knew that I had found my calling. Although I find most aspects of veterinary medicine fascinating, I particularly enjoy emergency medicine and surgery. My partner, Ashley, and I both are veterinarians; so naturally, we have a house full of pets! We share our home with our two dogs, Lucy and Kaiser, and three cats, Reid, Sunshine Boots, and Champ. I enjoy hiking, fly-fishing (I’m still learning) and baking! I'm looking forward to building long-lasting relationships with you and your furry family members.

Dr. Stephanie Athavale

I was born and raised in Southeastern, Michigan (just outside of Detroit.) I attended The University of Michigan from 2008-2012 majoring in biology and minoring in anthropology. I then went to vet school at The Ohio State University from 2013-2017, and moved to Minneapolis shortly after graduation. I worked as a small animal associate veterinarian at a private practice before making the move to Arizona in 2019. Clinically, I am interested in internal medicine, behavioral studies, and performing ultrasounds. I live with my husband, Aditya, and our 2 fur children: A Beagle-Collie mix named Jasper, and a tuxedo cat named Winston. In my free time, I enjoy reading, bird watching, and spending time with my family. My husband and I also like to go for scenic drives and nature walks!

Dr. Bianca Garza

I grew up in Texas and graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Prairie View A&M University in 2015 and earned my DVM at Midwestern University, graduating in 2020. I’ve worked as a veterinary assistant prior to beginning veterinary school and also during the summers while in veterinary school. I also volunteered at the Humane Society of Southeast Texas and with Arizona Humane Society. The most rewarding part about being a veterinarian is being able to help those that can't help themselves, it’s a joyous feeling returning a pet to their owner after treatment and seeing how much love there is between them. My family is extremely important to me and I’m grateful for their incredible support. My fur baby, Luna, is the dorkiest, cuddliest, and cutest adventure dog ever! She and I love to kayak and explore the hidden gems around the Phoenix area! In my free time, I also enjoy hiking, swimming, working out, reading, and camping; anything that involves being outside and nature.

Dr. Christin Rowley

I was born and raised in Glendale, Arizona. For my bachelor’s degree I attended GCU and minored in Entrepreneurial Studies. After, I attended veterinary school at Colorado State University, graduating in 2020. I have volunteered in several areas within animal healthcare including, local Arizona shelters as an adoption counselor, at a non-profit rehab center for horses as a stable hand, and a rehab facility for birds of prey. I also worked as a veterinary technician for 4 years before veterinary school at a small animal practice. During veterinary school, I was an emergency overnight surgical technician. My professional interests include preventative care and dermatology. One of the most rewarding parts of being a veterinarian is participating in growing the bond between pets and their owners by helping them stay happy and healthy! Of course, snuggling new pets every day is always a bonus! At home, I live with my husband and goofy golden retriever Mylo. During my free time I like to hike and camp in beautiful Northern Arizona, workout with my husband, and balance it out by doing lots of baking.
