AZPetVet – Midwestern University Leadership Awards 2020-2021

We are excited to have collaborated with the remarkable College of Veterinary Medicine leadership at Midwestern University to present the 2020-2021 AZPetVet \ Midwestern University Leadership Awards to eight hardworking, dedicated students. The awards included four $600 awards for two freshmen and two sophomores as well as four $1400 awards for two juniors and two seniors.

All CVM students in good academic standing were eligible and had to submit a short essay for consideration. A committee of MWU faculty members reviewed the submissions, and chose the eight students to receive the awards based on collaboration, compassion, and curiosity/creativity. The recipients joined us for a tour of our AZPetVet Arrow Animal Hospital after being presented their awards.

Midwestern University is an important part of our local community, and their quality of education is top-notch; not to mention they have an incredible faculty and staff that work tirelessly to ensure the students have the knowledge and foundational skill set needed for a successful career in veterinary medicine. We are proud to have had several Midwestern graduates join our AZPetVet family each year since their first graduating class in 2018!

Arizona Gives Day – AZPetVet & Gabriel’s Angels

What is it?
Arizona Gives Day is an annual opportunity for Arizonan’s to support non-profit organizations that make a difference in our community.

First started in 2013, the collaboration between the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and the Arizona Grantmakers has helped raise more than $23 million for Arizona’s nonprofit organizations. This year, it looks like the total given statewide will break the $7 million dollar mark- the highest yet! (It was just over $6 million in 2020).

While the website is available to accept donations year-round, the annual online giving campaign takes place in early April each year. Donors can engage in a variety of ways, from setting up pre-scheduled or recurring donations, to utilizing the website search features to find nonprofits based on what is important to them (location, mission of the organization, and so on).

2021 Impact:
For 2021, AZPetVet partnered with Gabriel’s Angels and sponsored a donation power hour: We agreed to match any donations made between 4 & 5PM up to a total of $2,500. During our power hour, community members donated $3,585.20 – maxing out our contribution!

With the combined give, the funds raised will nearly sponsor two new pet therapy teams within Gabriel’s Angels! Each therapy team impacts an average of 80-100 children each year. We are proud to support the mission of Gabriel’s Angels as we all know the positive impact pets can have!

Keeping the Pantry – (and the heart) – Full!

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to meet Sonya – the incredible young woman behind GrandPaws Pantry – then you already know that you have met someone special! Even though she isn’t even old enough to have her driver’s license yet, she is well ‘on the road’ to making an incredible impact in her community. As the founder of GrandPaws Pantry a few years ago, Sonya’s passion for providing supplies and resources as well as serving as an advocate for all animals is infectious. The AZPetVet family of animal hospitals was honored to support this local non-profit as a partner in our annual holiday drive, with our locations serving as donation drop-off points across the valley.

Donations came from everyone including our amazing clients, vendor partners, team members, and community members – even some without pets of their own! Sonya (and her transportation support!) took the time to visit our locations, collecting the donations and taking the opportunity to say thank you in person. (No Sonya…thank YOU for your passion!) More than a thousand items were collected to help stock the pantry, and the AZPetVet partners came together to provide a $1,600 cash contribution which was an unexpected surprise for Sonya. We are proud to partner with GrandPaws Pantry, helping to support the wonderful impact they are having in our community!

Partnering Up to Provide a Helping Hand

Each holiday season the AZPetVet family of animal hospitals conducts a donation drive to support a local pet-related non-profit (or two). Last week, we were thrilled to handoff the amazing donations collected to one of the two organizations we partnered with this year. During the month, we collected items from team members, vendor partners, and our incredible clients who all gave from their hearts! The director of Helping Hands for Homeless Hounds is a hands-on leader, and personally came to help collect the donations – over 2,000 items! It took two large vehicles and more than one trip to deliver all the donations – but everything made it, and will be put to good use!

In addition to all the products and goods collected, the AZPetVet partners provided a $2,750 cash contribution to the drive, helping ensure that the wonderful work of Helping Hands for Homeless Hounds can continue forward. AZPetVet is honored to have had the opportunity to partner with this wonderful non-profit, helping to create a lasting, positive impact in our community.

Gabriel’s Angels & AZPetVet – All Our Favorite Events Have Dogs

It’s no surprise that AZPetVet has a bit of a thing about animals. That’s why we always get a little extra excited about working with organizations like Gabriel’s Angels. Each year, they help thousands of Arizona’s at risk children through pet therapy. Since AZPetVet helps thousands of Arizona’s pets each year, we’re kind of a great match!

In fact, AZPetVet’s cofounder, Dr. Wayne Anderson, has been a trusted advisor to Pam Gaber, the founder of Gabriel’s Angels since it was just Pam and Gabriel. Of course, our family was much smaller then too – today we have more than 21 hospitals!

When Pam and Gabriel first set paws in the Crisis Nursery and fell in love with the children, the children fell in love with Gabriel right back. Pam knew that working together, she and Gabriel could make a big difference in little lives. She was right. Today, the Gabriel’s Angels serves more than 13,500 kids each year through more than 125 different nonprofit agencies. We couldn’t be more proud.

Today, we have Gabriel’s Angels therapy teams stop by different AZPetVet locations to meet the staff. They’ll share stories about their work, and the children they serve, while the team oohs and ahhs over the dogs. It’s clear why everyone loves them!

This year, as part of our Giving Back Initiative, AZPetVet became the title sponsor for the 2018 Unleash the Love Breakfast. This highly anticipated fundraising event is held every April, and features highlights of the work they’ve done, the goals for the next year, and of course – DOGS. With more than 50 therapy teams on hand, how can anyone resist helping and donating? Here’s to many more years of dogs and angels!
